“Goodnight Gorgeous,” via Aimee Molloy (Harper)
Early on in the deliciously twisty “Goodnight Gorgeous,” certainly one of the primary characters, a charismatic man who we’re getting the sense is being stalked via a fan, is studying Stephen King’s “Distress.”
His spouse, in the meantime, is studying “that thriller everybody’s speaking about” with an unreliable female narrator. (Assume “Long past Lady” or “The Lady on the Educate.”)
So we have now some thought the place this may well be headed.
However that doesn’t mean we will be able to look forward to the surprises that Aimee Molloy has in retailer, or bet whodunit.
That is Molloy’s 2nd novel, after her suspenseful debut, “The Best possible Mom,” which was once a couple of lacking kid in Brooklyn. That ebook is reportedly being made into a film starring Kerry Washington.
The couple at the heart of “Goodnight Gorgeous,” Sam Statler and Annie Potter, are newlyweds who’ve moved from the town to Sam’s small place of birth in upstate New York. He’s a psychologist who units up a swank apply in an remoted previous mansion. She’s a gender-studies professor educating a category known as “It’s All in Her Head: Girls and Insanity in Literature.”
Their adjustment to small-town lifestyles is sophisticated via monetary worries; considerations about Sam’s mom, who has dementia; and Sam’s previous recognition as a high-school heartbreaker whose dad ran off with a fashion.
